Simple Energy Mark 2 Electric Scooter

Simple Energy is a Bengaluru-based electric vehicle start-up. Suhas Rajkumar is the founder of the company. It will launch its first electric scooter during the first half of 2021. This electric scooter has been named Simple Energy Mark 2. It will be the flagship product of the company. Simple Energy has raised funds from investors and has set up its plant in Bengaluru.

Simple Energy has developed this scooter from a scratch. The surface design, battery pack development, electric motor development, etc have been done through in-house research and development. It is a made-in-India electric scooter in the true sense. The scooter caters to students and professionals in Tier 1, Tier 2 1nd Tier 3 cities & towns.

Simple Energy aims to disrupt the Indian electric vehicle segment. The company aims to produce electric vehicles which provide good mileage and are also price efficient. Currently, the price of an electric scooter and bike is around 60% higher than internal combustion engine two-wheelers. Range anxiety is another issue to be resolved. Simple Energy Mark 2 will attempt to reduce this gap.

Simple Energy’s prototype Mark 1 achieved an ARAI-approved range of more than 230 km with a 4-kilowatt hour battery pack. The battery pack has been developed in-house by Simple Energy.  The scooter has been designed using French technology major, Dassault Systemes’ development platform.

Simple Energy Mark 2 Mileage

Mark 2 electric scooter will have a range of 240 Km. The battery of Mark 2 has been designed to give this high range. The scooter will give this range when run in Eco mode, on a fully charged battery. The range of 240 kilometers is the highest range amongst electric scooters being sold in India.

Simple Energy Mark 2 Specifications

  • Battery Pack – Lithium-Ion type battery of 4.2kWh capacity. The battery has been developed by the in-house research team of Simple Energy. The battery is removable and can be charged at home or office.
  • Electric Motor – The motor is BLDC type. It is a mid-drive electric motor. The motor produces 9.5 PS of power. The maximum torque produced is 72 Nm.
  • Speed – Simple Energy Mark 2 electric scooter can achieve a maximum speed of 100 Km per hour.
  • Acceleration – It can accelerate from 0 to 50 Km per hour in 3.6 seconds. This is a good acceleration for urban driving and also for driving on highways.
  • Driving Modes – Simple Energy Mark 2 electric scooter has 3 driving modes. These are Eco, Normal, and Sports.
  • Headlight – Mark 2 has a full LED headlight and taillight.
  • Other Features – The electric scooter has other attractive & useful features like Touch Screen Display, Built-in Navigation, and Bluetooth Connectivity.
  • Storage – Simple Energy claims to provide larger storage space under the seat.

Simple Energy Mark 2 Price

The manufacturer has not yet announced the price. But we expect the price to be in the range of Rs 1.10 Lac.

Simple Energy Mark 2 electric scooter has all the features found in scooters being manufactured by other established electric scooter manufacturers. In addition, it beats other scooters in Range. For example, Bajaj Chetak electric scooter has a range of 95 Km. Ather 450X has a range of 85 Km. Compare this with Simple Energy Mark 2 which will have a range of 230 Km.

The plant has been set us in Whitefield, Bengaluru. The initial production capacity is 50, 000 electric scooters. The scooter will be sold first in Delhi and Bengaluru. Simple Energy will expand the dealership network in a phased manner to cover all of India.
